About the EP
The Devil Picks His Favorites
The biggest question in the culture has always been about who's the nicest, who's the illest, who's the best to ever do it. My answer to that question is this project. It's a culmination of different experiences drawn from my life. While the core theme is centered around the sportsmanship of the culture and lyrical showcase, The Devil Picks His Favourites is grounded by raw themes of family, financial literacy, and emotional maturity.
Personally, I don't consider this project healing — it's more of a deeper look at the scars to see what needs tidying and where. I worked on my storytelling and brushed up on my songwriting so these records don't get lost in mediocrity. Everything you witness on this project is my business expertise, my family grievances, and me fully embracing whatever version of myself anyone who knows me considers unforgiving and evil.
The title is a metaphor that speaks to how much the devil has always had a hand in my affairs — consciously or subconsciously. I figured if you've got the devil's audience, then God certainly has a special interest too.
By no means is this project perfect, but I remain confident in the execution. I wasn't striving to be debated on anybody's top list of anything — because I know who I am. I recognise I'm not the only one, and more importantly, I recognise that no matter what I go through, I'm not alone. I am not defined by the industry's construct of what my music should be.
It's haunting. But at the end of the day — The Devil Picks His Favourites.
